So, following my participation in The Big Painting Challenge on BBC1, I was asked if I would judge art for my son's Cub Scout's troop's Art Badge last night!
I guess there was around 30 boys, aged between 8-10, all very excited. As they were dressed up in uniform I decided to too: I put on the clothes I wore in the last two episodes - most notably the jeans autographed by almost all the artists (I think Camilla had disappeared before I could get her to sign then), mentors and judges.
My autographed jeans I worn on the last few programs:
First I answered a few of their questions about the competition, such as "why did I have purple paint on my left boot?" Answer: Diana Ali unscrewed one of my acrylic pens while trying to get the top off to autograph my jeans!
The boys had a tough challenge: to paint some flowers in vases. The leaders also had a go, and so did I. I have done fast work since the program, but I managed to get about 4 sketches done in 30 minutes. I was a little worried about how to judge a competition with my son participating, but I did it blind for each year age group (8, 9, 10, and leaders). So, honestly, it was no fix when my son come first in the 9's!
Congratulations to all the kids, and thanks - it was a hyper-active and fun evening!
