I took the source photo with an Olympus OMD-E while some friends were visiting a few years ago, and we were sat in front of a fire or chiminea at night. I then manipulated the photo internally using one of the camera's art filters.
This is what I managed to complete at the Guild of Wiltshire Artists open session, in Broad Town, during the monthly Friday session (10am - 3pm, although I had to leave around 2pm).
This is a 80cm x 60cm, 12mm, MDF coated with gesso. I changed the composition from the photograph - moving the figures closer together, drawing the figures freehand. I then used wide (15mm) acrylic marker pens to put down the broad strokes of colour in the limited session time available.
